I have never been a big DIY person – or really crafty in general. When I have free time, I tend to spend it doing other things. But doing this DIY denim cutoffs projects was so fun! I’ve been on the hunt for a good pair of cutoffs, and as I’m sure you all know it’s super hard. So I decided to get myself into full summer state of mind and do it myself! I headed off to my local goodwill and searched for an old pair of Levi’s or something similar that would work. Ironically I found these ladies Harley Davidson (what in the world!) pair on the MEN’s rack…meant to be? Maybe! They fit just right and were the exact style I was looking for to chop right up so I snatched them up and headed home to get started…
WHAT YOU NEED:
– OLD/VINTAGE PAIR OF DENIM
– SCISSORS
– TAPE MEASURE
– SOMETHING TO MARK WITH (I USED A SHARPIE PEN)
STEP 1 // MEASURE 16-19 INCHES FROM THE TOP OF THE DENIM, DEPENDING ON HOW LONG YOU WANT THEM AND HOW MUCH SLACK YOU THINK YOU’LL NEED FOR FOLDING OR DISTRESSING.
STEP 2 // MAKE A WELL DEFINED MARK AT YOUR DESIRED LENGTH.
STEP 3 // FOLD THE DENIM IN HALF, WITH THE BACK POCKETS ON THE OUTSIDE. CONTINUE THE MARKING ON THE BACK SIDE OF THE DENIM.
STEP 4 // CUT ALONG THE DOTTED LINE. ONCE YOU’VE COMPLETED ONE LEG, CUT THE SECOND FOLLOWING THE LENGTH OF THE FIRST.
STEP 5 // FOLD/ROLL UP YOUR SHORTS A FEW TIMES. I ROLLED MINE UP TWO!
I ended up taking my cutoffs a little further and did a ton of distressing to them. I am in love with the way they turned out. Check back soon for a full outfit post to see the final product!
