Happy Monday! We’re kicking things off this week with a little home decor refresh + some tips on how to maximize your small spaces. For all my gals living in tiny studios, cramped apartments, or even older homes with awkward rooms – this post is for you! I am also excited to share some updates to my living room, as previously seen here. I’ve added some fun accents, along with two major pieces: this tv stand (I’m in LOVE!) and a huge wall mirror.
If you’re feeling restricted with your decor in a small space – I totally feel your pain! The space I moved from was about half the size of this space, so I became quite the pro at maximizing my space and utilizing home decor pieces in unique ways.
1. ADD HEIGHT
Utilize: Floor Lamps, Elongated Wall Art, Frames, and Mirrors
One of the best ways to maximize your smaller space and give the illusion that it’s actually bigger is to bring in height. Whether with floor lamps or floor length mirrors, find a way to bring in at least one piece that offers height to the room. I have two table lamps on either side of my couch, but knew I wanted a floor lamp near the tv stand. This antique gold hairpin lamp from World Market was the perfect piece! I also scooped up this windowpane frame to prop on my tv stand – rather than adding a picture frame or smaller piece, I brought some more height to this side of the room with the long, skinny windowpane frame.
2. USE LIGHT COLORS
Utilize: Light Pillows, Throws, Rugs, Furniture
Ever walk into a room with darker colors and feel like you’re in a cramped space? Yep, I don’t like it either. If you’re in a smaller space the last thing you want to do is bring in darker colors with your decor. The space will instantly feel smaller! Instead, bring in bright, light, or airy colors and patterns with your furniture, pillows, throws, rugs, etc. Nearly all of my furniture is a lighter color, and I balanced it out with some light turquoise velvet pillows, fun printed throws, and this faux hide rug. Using things like velvet or fun patterns adds dimension and texture – so don’t worry about your room being too ‘bland’.
3. FIND USABLE ACCENTS
Utilize: Baskets, Bins, Storage Ottomans
The last thing you want to do in a small space is create more clutter. Maximize your space by bringing in pieces that are doubly useful. I’ve been looking for straw baskets to hold my ever-growing throw collection and found these at World Market. They’re the perfect size – store anything from throws to books or magazines in them! While I love my new tv stand, I don’t want guests to see mounds of clutter inside – i.e. DVD’s & movies, random workout things, extra coasters, etc. I grabbed these chic gold bins to house extras, and the tv stand looks so much cleaner with these beauties inside! Using accents that both compliment the room but provide purpose is key to creating a clutter free small space.

I love the combination of all your pieces! Especially love the floor lamp! Did you pair it with a different lamp shade than what is on World Market’s website? Thanks!
The lamp doesn’t come with one so I ran out and got one at Target!
Where did you get the table lamp that is a slate silver color next to the couch? I LOVE it!
