Color Blocking [Bloggers Do It Better]

One of my fellow bloggers, Kristina of Pretty Shiny Sparkly, has launched a new blogger project: Bloggers Do it Better (if you aren’t involved, well then shame on you!) Each week she posts a theme for bloggers to shoot some outfit photogs for, post them, and the following Tuesday are all posts involved are showcased on her blog via a permalink. Pretty darn genius, don’t you think? I was instantly excited to be involved in her new project, and was thoroughly pleased to find color blocking to be the first “assignment”, if you will.

Update: See the rest of the bloggers that are involved here.

I’ve been dreaming up outfits in my head all week and they kept getting shut down, mostly because my closet didn’t have one of the items I wanted (and naturally, on a college budget which is basically nothing, I can’t just head out and purchase a multitude of items). So, I decided I should probably look in my closet first, THEN decide what to wear. Hmm, good idea, Marissa..

I ended up deciding on this jersey skirt, purchased from Gap what seems like forever ago. This turquoise is one of my favorite colors for spring; it’s so bright and cheery! I had conveniently painted my nails this light lavender last night so thought it only fitting to incorporate the purple in, hence the top. Purple & turqoise: color blocked. I suppose you could even throw brown in there, considering my shoes, bangle, and part of the necklace are brown too.. if you’re that particular.
A little fun with some side walk chalk – Who doesn’t love side walk chalk?!

Outfit Details: Top: Marshalls, Skirt: Gap, Wedges: Target, Sequined Belt: J. Crew, Watch: Michael Kors, Jewelry: Forever 21, AE

I’ve been having so much fun reading all of these color blocking posts and I love that yours really stands out because of your color choices. Instead of the usual super-bright shades, your cool tones look so chic and perfect for spring.

And yes, it’s official. . . I want to raid your shoe closet! First the Dolce Vitas now this ruffle pair, too cute!

  31. What a fabulous idea! I Love your take on color blocking and especially using a Gap skirt that feels like “forever ago”. I rocked a top just the other day that I feel like should be “vintage” by now and I got so many compliments haha! Love it.

Wow, I love these two colors together. I know what you’re saying about being on a college budget but when I saw the skirt you’re wearing I immediately thought of a skirt sitting in my closet that looks like the same cut and fabric.

Great work and definitely adding you to my blog feed.
