Making Dreams Happen

Think about this quote for a second, and what it really means.
I’ve been dropping hints here and there of changes that have been happening in my life. So many of you have been asking and anxiously waiting the details and I’ve held off a bit because I wanted to wait for the right time. So much has needed to fall into place and it’s all been a long time coming, but I am so excited to be sharing it with all of you now!
First (just wait one more minute!) I want to share a new series I’m launching here on the blog : Motivation Monday. Doesn’t it seem like everyone hates Monday for some reason or another? The weekend was too short, you woke up with a headache, your hair looks like a hot mess and your blow out appointment isn’t until Wednesday, you spilled coffee on your new cashmere sweater, your commute was a half hour longer than normal… the list goes on, you get it. I get it. We’ve all had a horrible case of the Mondays at some point or another, and I’ve been there all too often lately.
But I started to think – if I changed my attitude and perspective, gave myself a little push and motivation, could that help and (gasp) maybe even cure my “Monday blues”? Then the light bulb went off and I realized – half the time my Monday seems horrible because I sit and read a timeline full of horrible Monday and find a reason for mine to be horrible. Just horrible. Even though it’s not horrible.
Enter Motivation Monday. Yes, Style Cusp is bringing you motivation every Monday. Instead of checking your twitter timeline on your commute and starting to feel sorry it’s Monday, come here and get a little pick me up to enjoy with your latte.
Today’s Motivation?
The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams. [Eleanor Roosevelt]

Dreams. We all have them. Most of us aren’t daring enough to go out and make them happen. Or maybe we’re afraid we will fail. But dreams don’t work unless you do. Your future belongs to YOU – are you willing to go make it happen?
The past 6 months I’ve spent time recovering from my major back injury (and thankfully don’t have to have surgery). Let me tell you, it was rough. Literally, I was unable to move on my back in bed for nearly 2 months, and just this past week I’ve been able to get back into a light workout routine. But all that time spent on my back was healthy for me. It was exactly what I needed and I was able to evaluate my life, where I was at, where I was going, and where I wanted to be.
I decided I was going to go for it – go for what I always wanted and what I always knew I was going to do. After all, my future was really dependent on me. I was unhappy with my then job working in retail full time – it was a chore to go everyday and I knew I was capable of so much more. The flexibility of the job was great but I was spending (felt like wasting) so many hours on something I was so unhappy with. So I mapped out my plan – I’m a planner through and through, and am so not good at just ‘winging it’. I read a load of books and articles to kick start me and fuel my little spark inside, because I knew if I thought about what I was doing TOO much, then I’d sink back into my routine of what was horrible-but-comfortable.
Fast forward to now – a few months later. I’ve launched my own social media consulting business and already have two clients that I am working with full time! I’m also running some marketing initiatives for a company in house a few days a week.  It’s only been a full two weeks, but I can honestly say it’s the most invigorating process. I absolutely love working from home – it’s what I’ve always wanted to do and I am finally actually doing it. It’s hard work. Making a schedule for yourself and sticking to it aka not sitting on Pinterest for 5 hours may just be the most difficult thing. (okay maybe not, but it’s close)
I’ve had pinch me moment after pinch me moment the past few weeks – that I’m actually living part of my dream. That I was brave enough to step outside of my comfort circle and make it happen. I was tired of living the norm and of feeling unhappy. So I did it.
You can too. Start by making your Monday a motivated one and not full of Monday blues. If you hate your job, quit it. If you’ve always wanted to run a marathon, get outside and run. Stop complaining and make a change. No one’s going to go grab your dreams for you, you’ve got to do it yourself. After all, your future belongs to you.

So happy for you! My husband and have these discussions all the time–when you don’t like something about your life, change it. But it’s often harder to put into practice than you’d think. So impressed with you for doing it! Congrats, girl! 🙂
