Many couples who decide to try open relationships use “open relationship contracts.” This is basically where you sit down and decide the basic rules, so there is no confusion and (in theory) no one is hurt. We`re thinking about an open marriage – would a contract help? The risk of sexually transmitted diseases can be greatly reduced by engaging in safer sex. However, the proportion of people in open unions who have safer sex remains controversial. Anecdotal observations range from the assertion that no one was engaged in safer sex at a swing event to the assertion that everyone was engaged in safer sex at an event. A survey of swingers showed that “more than 62% of them said they had changed their behaviour because of the fear of AIDS. The two most frequently cited changes were more selective, with which they oscillated and practiced safer sex (for example. B with condoms). Nearly 7% of them said they had stopped swaying because of the AIDS epidemic. Finally, a third of them said that they had not changed any of their habits, and more than a third of these people did not say anything, not even AIDS, would push them to change. [35] Although a majority of swingers reported that they had changed their behaviour in response to HIV/AIDS, some chose to become more selective in choosing partners rather than engaging in safer sexual practices. Greater selectivity in partner choice is not a reliable way to reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS.

Many people are not aware that they are infected, and no outward signs of infection can be seen. A psychological study suggests that people may not be very good at detecting lies about the status of HIV. [48] It is remarkable that one-third of swingers rejected the idea of changing behaviour in response to HIV/AIDS. These results suggest that people involved in open marriages may in fact have a slightly higher risk of sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV/AIDS. “It can be an evolving document if you push more to open up your relationship and understand what is right and what is not,” Watson says. “It should be a document that you will be working on regularly, but it is useful to write it so that people are not disoriented.
