Lucky FABB. Was. Phenomenal.
Part of me just wants to leave that quick sentence as me entire post and dash out of here – but I’ll be nice and elaborate a bit for those of you who weren’t so ‘lucky’ to attend! Lucky hosted the conference at the Times Center this year, with over 300 bloggers in attendance – craziness! I’m pretty sure you’ve never been in a room with THAT much fashion, let me tell you. From the bags (Celines galore, 3.1 Phillip Lims, and Alexander Wangs) to the shoes (Choo, Louboutin, and Prada!) we were all show stoppers in ourselves.

Lucky provided an incredible lineup for the day, with the theme being “How to Make it on Your Own” – which highlighted each of us bloggers as our own CEO. But I want to focus on a few key speakers that were my favorites and gave some impactful advice.
First up was Terry Lundgren, the CEO of Macy’s. I wasn’t the most excited about Terry (obviously) but have to say that I gained the most insight from him. He is the CEO of Macy’s. Who wouldn’t want to hear his story, how Macy’s is expanding in the digital and social media scape, and gain valuable business advice from such a successful man. Some of the numbers he was spitting out at us were mind boggling!
He gave us bloggers three pieces of advice for building and maintaining a healthy brand – that I thought were very on point:
- Start with your customer/audience – be inclusive enough with your content to have a wide reach in your net.
- Know what is different or unique about your brand that makes your customers/audience choose you.
- Be consistent with your quality- whether this is of messaging, of your reputation, etc. Be your brand and brand right. Do not get sucked into something that isn’t you, even if it is the latest trend.
Always look forward – you can’t look back! – Terry Lundgren
Rachel Zoe was one of two keynote speakers for the day. Not to be cliche or anything.. but can I just say I dieeeee? Rachel is fabulous. As I tweeted during the conference: “Rachel has such a beautiful air in person, it’s something you’d never sense unless you were actually in the same room as her.” And it’s true!
She is such a real person, with a real personality and real heart. She loves what she does, loves her husband, loves her son – and won’t ever part from any of them. I have to be honest and say I was completely surprised to hear that her son is with her 24/7 – whether it’s for appointments, shoots, in the office, etc. He is there! There was hardly a sentence that she didn’t speak about him.
A few takeaways from Rachel:
- “You will never succeed at something that doesn’t feel right to you.”
- “Have drive and enthusiasm – that makes you great!”
- “I want glamour to be easy. Unless of course you’re going to the Oscars.”
- “Always be a nice person. Don’t ever step on people to get what you want.”
- “You get more experience working in a workplace you actually love.”
And lastly, Lauren Conrad. Guys, I was on CLOUD NINE, let me tell you. Lauren has been one of my favorites since her Laguna days – always been a style icon and inspiration of mine.. not to mention proclaimed celebrity look a like by friends, family, and plenty of strangers. It took her a little while to warm up to such a huge crowd (she was nervous!) But hey, I would be too so cut the gal some slack! Lauren chatted about her brands – from her website, to her Kohl’s line, Paper Crown, and her book tours. What a busy lady! How she has time to breathe, I don’t know.
I was able to sneak away and chat with some of my Lucky editor friends about meeting Lauren real quick after her panel. Thanks to Mary + Annie at Lucky for making it happen and my gal Erika for snapping the picture… I got to meet Lauren! Total starstruck moment and I have to say I was kind of nervous. Seriously, I feel like a 12 year old girl who just met Justin Bieber saying that, but really. Such an exciting moment!

The day was absolutely fabulous – from the sponsor booths, pristine treatment from Lucky, organization, venue, bloggers, speakers… everything. I ended the day with a fabulous swag bag, incredibly sore feet (from standing), a hungry tummy, and a mind racing as to what my blog plan would be!
If you have any specific questions about the Lucky conference, feel free to leave a comment or shoot me an email ! I’d love to talk FABB with you and how you can attend the next one.
Thank you so much to Lucky and all you do for us bloggers – it is always an honor to attend such an incredible conference!
