This week has been entirely too insane and I feel as if I’ve hardly had a moment to even catch my breath. Seriously. Phew.
Ok, I just took a breath, finally.
My second to last semester of college (woo-hoo!) has begun and it’s been nothing short of a crazy ride so far. And well, let explain myself. Remember that time (yeah, you’re gonna have to scratch your brain to remember since it’s been sooo long) that I mentioned I had a few announcements to make? Yeaaa.. Well one of them was already made, and if you missed it then you’re missing out! I, along with two blogger friends, launched the Bloggerista Book Club. So far, it’s been a smashing success, and if you aren’t involved you’re missing out. (and yes, I just did call you out on that!)
So, getting to my point/other announcement, which has been so hard to keep a secret the past 2 months.
Back in December, I decided I should start looking for internships, fully planning on finding one for the summer. We all know the benefits of internships and how fabulous they look on a resume. Literally within my first half hour of browsing, I stumbled upon a listing online for an intern needed starting in January in the online marketing department at Foley + Corinna . F+C’s offices are smack-dab in the middle of NYC. I am in the mountains of boring Virginia, over 500 miles away. Well, I thought I’d take a whack at it and apply- I mean, what did I have to lose, right? So, I emailed the contact and waited anxiously for a reply.
Within a few days, I heard back from the Online Marketing Director, telling me she’d like to have a phone interview with me and wanted to see my resume. Naturally, I started jumping up and down (yea, yea.. before I even got it), and then quickly got myself together.
To make a long story short, we had the phone interview, and I LANDED IT! I could hardly contain my excitement- my dream, since I can remember was to always be a “fashion intern”. There’s something about the term that has such a ring to it, something so glamouricious. And not only was I a fashion intern, but it directly pertained to my major (Business Marketing), my minor (Fashion Merchandising), and I could ‘perform my responsibilities’ from the comfort of my own apartment. All the way in the Virginia mountains.
So, now you’re thinking.. wait, what?! How are you an intern for a company in NYC. Hold on – didn’t I mention online marketing? Yes, I thought so! Everything that I/we are dealing with is dealt with online, whether it’s contacting sites and their advertisers, bloggers (yes, like you!), weekly report, social media analysis, and the list goes on. Everything I need, is right in front of me. Genius, right? Thank you, internet.
Again, congrats! I am so proud of you…it’s a big accomplishment and I know it’s something you’ll enjoy. And I KNOW you can do it all. I’ve learned these past few months it’s possible, just try to get some rest and relax along the way. Tired–OK. Exhausted and on the edge of a nervous breakdown–Not OK. 🙂 Congrats, girl. You deserve everything you want. Keep reaching for the stars.
XO,
Jenna
