Cancun Travel Guide

I just returned from four blissful days in Cancun, Mexico a la the Ritz Carlton with my partner in crime/twin/sister/wife (depending on who you ask in Mexico, we got it all – ha!) Kendall from Styled Snapshots. (see her travel guide here) I’ve been to Cancun before as I’ve shared here with you guys, but not to the Ritz-Carlton, so I was excited to experience Cancun Ritz style! I shared so much of my trip on snapchat and instagram but am super excited to get into a little more detail with you guys here on the site. Social is great to share tid bits and real time action, but there’s lots of details and fun adventures to share.. so let’s get to it!

WHERE WE STAYED

The Ritz Carlton – Cancun hosted Kendall and I for three nights at their incredibly stunning ocean front resort. We were greeted with champagne upon check in and a massive display of fresh flowers that was changed daily in the hotel lobby. Seriously, we were scheming a way to somehow steal them all and bring them home! Our room was complete with breathtaking beach views and an all white marble bathroom to boot – hello, serious #goals. I was nearly drooling.

The Ritz was also so kind to extend their Club Level experience to us – which featured an exclusive level in the hotel with meals and snacks served all day long. Kendall and I took full advantage of the vast breakfast spread and nighttime treats (think wine + truffles, yes!) We also were sure to order room service a few times (because, obviously) and were so impressed. Try the Ritz Club Sandwich with fries or the bowl of guac!

The Ritz was also incredibly accommodating when it came to my gluten allergy. They asked upon check in if anyone in the party has food allergies so they know ahead of time while dining. I always love to point this out about a hotel experience because it makes any trip go so much smoother. On the club level, our waitress made sure I had gluten free toast during the breakfast hour and additional lunch options. For our few dining experiences (more below), each server brought me gluten free options without even having to ask – so impressed!

WHAT WE DID

The Ritz-Carlton so kindly planned nearly our entire itinerary for us. We had a daily activity followed by a nightly hotel experience and it was done so well. Kendall and I both commented several times on how we loved the balance of fun and relaxation that the hotel provided, while still getting a complete Ritz-Cancun experience to share with you all!

The first day, we checked in, got situated, and then enjoyed an 80 minute massage right on the beach at sunset – talk about dreamy! We spent a good amount of time afterwards enjoying the spa facilities which were peaceful and incredibly relaxing. After traveling for the first half of the day, this was the perfect way to unwind and get into Cancun mode. After the spa, we decided to hop into our robes (hotel robes = one of my favorite things ever) and order room service – best decision ever!

Our second day was spent under one of the Ritz beach villas after a morning of shooting some content and looks for you guys. Kendall and I seriously checked out for a few hours – enjoying the views, hammock, and even a quick scalp massage courtesy of the sweet villa-side staff. We ordered some yummy drinks – try ‘the fresh one’, it was so refreshing! I even snoozed off for a little mid-afternoon nap!

For dinner that night, the Ritz treated us to their Culinary Center Chef’s Table – which may be one of my top memories from any trip I’ve taken. I don’t think there are words to describe how incredible it was. The chef (Ryan) walked us through each step of our meal, even having us hop in and help. We made the most delicious margarita of life (now I’m spoiled and never having another marg), fresh ground spices for the fish, and fresh corn tortillas. Chef Ryan was also incredibly knowledgeable on so many fun facts about Mexico, their culture, and cuisine. See the video below for our Culinary Center experience!

Our third day, the Ritz sent us out on a catamaran for the day – which was an absolute blast. We boated over to Isla Mujeres and spent the afternoon on the beach before boating over to another portion of the island for lunch. Due to the cloudy-ish weather we weren’t able to snorkle as originally planned, but the catamaran crew took us over to a beautiful area to swim. Kendall and I jumped off the back of the boat and had a blast with the other people aboard our catamaran for the day. Seriously was one of the best days! If you’re in Cancun, I’d highly recommend spending a day on an Albatross Catamaran. Note to self: wear sunscreen even if it’s cloudy – we came back super burnt!

Our last night, the Ritz treated us to dinner on the beach in one of their villas – actually the same villas that you can reserve during the day. We had the most amazing meal, and our waiter Moses was just the sweetest. He told us so many fun stories about the hotel – and how the idea of having the villa dinners was actually one of his own from years ago! I ordered oysters as an app and Kendall got the coconut shrimp – both amazing. We both ended up ordering the chargrilled lobster tails for dinner and were so impressed. Delishhhhh!

This was my first trip experience with any Ritz hotel and I was thoroughly impressed. The Ritz treats their guests so well, their facilities and grounds are impeccable, and the food was outstanding. A few things I always pay attention to when traveling – especially abroad! Thank you so much to the Ritz for hosting Kendall and I. Let me know if you have any specific questions about the resort or activities we did below, too!

Tomorrow I’ll be sharing a round up of all the looks I wore while in Cancun – I figured I’d split the posts up for you guys so it’s a bit easier to navigate. Check back for some seriously cute resort pieces!
